Vintage Doll

created by kiki

Belgium-born designer Martin Margiela, who debuted in 1989 in Paris, recycled his previous works and repeatedly presented the very same items in his shows. His approach expressed an objection to a fashion system that continuously creates new things and discards old ones. His proposal to recycle was widely applauded in the 1990s when vintage clothes and remade clothes grabbed the center stage on the fashion scene, and new products that had a vintage look were the must have items of the year.

That fashion may seem to repeat certain styles is inevitable because the shape of the human body limits options. However, the reemergence of past styles must each time be considered a completely new expression of the present age, as it arises from an entirely new social context.
